5 Reasons Why 'The Shawshank Redemption' ls Greatest Movie Ever Made

All the movie fans across the globe have seen or heard about the movie at least one time and the name of the movie is 'The Shawshank Redemption'. As l think it is the greatest movie ever made in the history of cinema. This movie makes you think what is right or wrong and it is hard to swallow. This movie got all the colours- friendship, betrayal, trust, hope, defamation, cruelty, innocence and many others. Despite all this the movie doesn't get any award at Oscars after getting nominated for 7 categories including Best Picture. Tom Hanks turned down the role of Andy Deufrane because of the conflicting schedules between his movie Forrest Gump. The movie was a box office failure because of the competition of Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump. The movie became the first movie to be voted 2 millions times on IMDb. It is No.1 in the 'Top Rated Movies' till date.

(There might be spoilers ahead if you haven't watched the movie but l don't think you haven't watched it.)

#5. Stephen King's Novel

The movie is adapted from the novel 'Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption'. We all know Stephen king for his horror books and its adaptation in movies like The Shining, IT series and Secret Window. But this movie is the greatest work of his life. He also said in an interview that this movie is his favourite movie from all the movie adaptations he has. The story he wrote is very fascinating and it draws your attention towards it. The movie excluded part of Rita Hayworth's life because it would have looked like her biopic. He got a 1000 dollars check for the rights to the movie and he never spent it and kept it in a frame.

#4. Direction of Frank Darabont

You cannot take away the hard work of Frank Darabont for this movie. He also writes the screenplay for the movie. He neglected some of the parts of the novel in the movie to make it perfect. He worked on the smallest detail and smallest character very perfectly. Each scene is directed with a caring touch to not to ruin the premise. There are many good things to point out but i just want to tell about a particular scenes:- In the entire movie Red is interview for parallel three times, for first time they told him to 'sit' , for the second time they told him to 'sit down' and the third time they told him 'please sit down' where he gets parole.

#3. Andy and Red's Friendship

The first time Red saw Andy, he betted on him to cry first in the prison but he proved him wrong. Soon after they developed the friendship as Andy requested a small hammer and Rita Hayworth's poster. Red was famous for smuggling things here and there. Over the years they developed a strong friendship and both of them were looking for each other's back. As actor Stephen Robbins who played Andy's character stated that "Andy and Red's friendship is like a non sexual relationship"

#2. Morgan Freeman

They casted Morgan Freeman against the odds. In the novel Red's character is Irish. His character was white and had red hairs. Despite all this they casted Morgan Freeman as a Red. As of now l cannot even imagine this movie without Morgan Freeman. The scene where he gets parole and then goes near that tree where Andy told him to and gets a letter written by Andy. After reading that letter a tough guy like Red also cries. That scene define that even men can cry. That was the best scene of Morgan Freeman in the movie. He is also the narrator of the movie. He got nominated for his performance as a Best Actor in Oscars but eventually lost to Tom Hanks for Forrest Gump.

#1. Hope

I think that movie revolves around one important main aspect that is 'HOPE'. The story of the movie is simple- How Andy got hope after that confession and how he delivered that hope to Red through that letter. In one scene where both they talked Red said "hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive man insane". But in that letter Andy tells Red that "hope is the good thing, maybe the best thing and no good thing ever dies". As Andy said "get busy living or get busy dying". The last dialogue of the movie is "HOPE".
