Bhonsle is the story of a retired police havaldar who is living in a chawl and trying to extend his service in the police. The main topic of the movie is the issue of migrants in Mumbai. The movie showcases the daily life struggle of middle class people. The subject of the movie is like balancing on the wire. If you go a little bit here or there you might end up hurting someone. And we will give this to the writer and director that they have handled it very well. The movie showed equal mistakes from both sides and tried to look even. The movie is slow paced but the silence is the best emotion of the movie.


Manoj Bajpayee plays the title role of Bhonsle. He is a lonely, quiet and value oriented person. Santosh Juvekar plays the character of Vilas who is a self-made politician and a flag bearer for locals. The most surprising performance in the movie is of Ipshita Chakraborty Singh as Sita. She is down to earth and caring in nature. She is an independent and hard working woman. Her performance is just great.  Abhishek Banerjee who we have seen in Stree and Paatal Lok is having a cameo in the movie.


Direction of Devashish Makhija is delicate as he handled this issue brilliantly. The location and the set is very relatable and doesn't look fake. They have worked on the very small things pretty well. Cinematography is great especially in the sequence of Ganpati Ceremony. 


The film premiered at the 2018 Busan Film Festival and also at MAMI Film Festival. It won Best Screenplay and Best Director Awards at Asian Film Festival Barcelona. It is disappointing to see such a film not getting released in cinema halls.


If you are looking for a masala Bollywood movie then this is not it. The great acting, a hidden message and a compelling story makes this movie worth watching.

The Walk

 I started my walk as usual but as soon as I got out of my gate, I started to feel a little weird. I didn’t have this type of feeling in my life. The feeling was of fear yet happiness, like a mixed juice. I have a daily route for my walk. I start my walking from my society gate towards Deepak Stores, where I meet my ‘not so serious about health’ friends who come to walk just to eat Deepak’s samosas.
