2. Khorasan wheat
Khorasan wheat trademarked named is Kamut. This wheat grain was founded by Bob Quinn when he was sixteen years old. The seeds of Kamut are rumored to be discovered from tombs of Egyptians. Kamut is similar to the normal wheat in appearance but Kamut is three times bigger in size than normal wheat. The taste of Kamut is nutty. Kamut is high in protein and rich in fiber which is good for the human body. Kamut is mostly used as flour. It provides several vitamins and minerals including selenium, zinc, phosphorus, magnesium, and B vitamins. Kamut provides 9.8 gms of protein per 172 gms of serving. If we compare this to brown rice and quinoa, it provides 4.5 gms and 8 gms respectively. This high protein helps people who donât eat meat and fishes. This especially beneficial for vegans as this is a great source of protein. Kamutâs fiber quantity is also greater than brown rice and quinoa. Did you know how much gms of fiber should you eat daily? Probably no, right. You have to intake 28 gms of fiber daily. Fiber is essential for the body as it improves blood glucose and blood cholesterol. Kamut has a good quantity of selenium. Selenium is essential for thyroid hormone synthesis and metabolism. Research has shown that selenium supplements are not that beneficial in boosting selenium, so this is a great benefit of Kamut.
Kamut provides enough selenium for our body, if your intake other selenium-rich food then this can cause hair and nail loss, nausea, diarrhea, or skin rashes. Selenium may interact with cisplatin, a chemotherapy agent that is used to treat ovarian, bladder, lung, and other cancers. If you are taking cisplatin, speak to your doctor to get personalized advice. Now the question arises of how to cook Kamut.
