India has been hit by the second wave of covid-19 and the situation is getting worse. This creates a lot of uncertainty in the world and employees are the most affected part of it as the world is going through a ‘Cutting Through Crisis’. The company going to cut employees this month? This year will I get a promotion? or There will be a pay cut? Do we have to re-join the office? Lots of questions roaming in the minds of employees as there is no clearer vision. This is the time where a company needs to back its employees and comfort them.

Lots of companies gave their employees work from home in this pandemic. According to KPMG’s survey report, 32 percent of organizations didn’t have facilities to offer a work-from-home option, and only 25 percent in all organizations had a built IT structure for this unexpected challenge. This process put pressure on both sides as companies and employees suffered from it.

1. Building relationship with employees

This pandemic has given a popular word “Work from Home”. Due to work from home employees have grown more closer to their families. Research has shown that 36 percent of employees would choose Work from Home over a pay raise. Talking with employees other than work will help to gain their insights. Companies should forgive minor mistakes as it will help them to earn the trust of employees. This will not only give satisfaction to employees but also will help in a longer period.

2. Healthcare plan

A Healthcare plan can reduce that concern and will give them positive energy which can they utilize in their work. Companies can also give vaccinations through them as it will reduce the chance of employees getting covid. Because of vaccinations, companies can bring back employees in their offices. This will give employees another motive to work hard.

3. Flexible work hours

Employees have to do all the household duties especially female employees and have to work. Homework of children, household chores, hobbies are the most important things they have to do while working from home. Flexible work hours will give them the right time to work and they can be more productive. According to the research by Shiftboard, hourly employees value having control of their time more than the value of pay rate. Stanford survey has shown that employees are 13 percent more productive than office employees. Companies have to take advantage of this as flexible hours will make it more productive.

4. Fun activities

According to the research of Hr executive, the risk of depression in US employees has raised to 302 percent because of the pandemic, and 20 to 39 aged employees are most affected. The result will not be different in any other countries. Creating fun activities in the group can help employees to communicate more with their colleagues. Creating groups and arranging weekly performance competitions between them, weekend games on social apps will keep employees fresh for the workaholic week ahead. Free shopping or food coupons will also encourage employees to work.

5. Four-day work policy

Many countries are now experimenting with this policy as there are lots of benefits to it. This policy provides employees more resting period as they can be fresher while returning to work. According to Harris poll, 82 percent of employees preferred a four-day work policy. This policy can be good for small businesses as they can give their employees more freedom as they can be more productive. According to a study by Independent Uk, four-day work saved over 1.8 million US dollars in energy costs and a reduction of 6,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions from closing the large office building on Fridays. This policy also contributes to the environment.

This pandemic has opened a new window for all the businesses to hire from all over the world not only from remote locations. The big challenge that all the companies are going to face rather than facing is of maintaining work culture. As of now, everything is digital. They have to create new ways like AI, employee videos to give insights into their work culture. Companies have to understand the changes they do for employees will also be good for their customers.

As the former CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs said, “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work.”
