What Is Cult Classic?

Cult cinema or what some people call cult classic is a movie that has a strong, loyal fanbase. Cult cinemas are not dependent on box office success or critically acclaimed. These type of movies changes the dynamics of cinema in future.

I will give you some examples which way you can get my point more clearly. My favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption which is the best example of cult cinema. The movie changed the perception of people. In the movie’s initial run it was a flop but after getting numerous Oscars nominations it came back into the theaters to become a success. In India, there is another perfect example of cult cinema is Andaz Apna Apna (AAA). If anyone doesn’t know then Aamir Khan and Salman Khan starrer movie was a big box office failure. What would happen if these two stars in one movie today. But after the television period, it just became one of the most streaming movies in the history of Indian Cinema. It is one of the most favorites movies on my watchlist. Every time it comes on TV I watch it from that point. It gives me joy and makes me stress-free. There is an interview of Rajkumar Santoshi, director of AAA on Rajeev Masand’s youtube channel. If you are a fan of the movie then you will love to get some insights into this classic.

• How do we get CULT CLASSIC?

It can come from various aspects if some group loves a particular movie or some social media rally for a movie that attracts people to it. Nowadays people are too busy for finding a movie, so they ask their friends about a good movie and that’s how this circle starts to work. Social media is helpful for everything that changes in the world to cope up. There are

several movies and series-based accounts on Instagram, Facebook. I also follow one account on my Insta. So basically they will upload a 30-40 secs video of some scene which will eventually lead you to curiosity about that particular clip to saw an actual movie or series. This is a great move for marketing as well as engaging an audience on your page.

Sometimes a moment causes a film to become a cult. #MeToo moment caused the movie Jennifer’s Body to become a cult. The movie stars Meghan Fox, Amanda Seyfield, and Adam Brody. You might don’t want to miss it.

• Is Harry Potter a CULT CINEMA?

Yes, in my vision it is a cult classic. The movie changed the derivative of imagination in movies. J.K.Rowling changed the dynamics of the movie with her extraordinary writing skills, God if I had something like that. If anyone saw it or not but everyone is known who Harry Potter is and what he does. Novel to movie transition is evolution after its first movie. We all grew up( I am twenty so but we all) watching Harry Potter’s movies. We all tried that broomstick flying for once. So that movie makes me happy I don’t know why but it can be because I feel like a child again? Maybe yes! The imagination for the writing and pulling that off in that time (in first and second movies) is speechless. Great things are just great. The movies made careers for stars like Daniel Radcliff and Emma Watson and many more. What can be any great for you? There are little things that happen in life like these movies.

• INDIAN CULT CLASSICS

There are many Indian cult classics as I know. If we start to make lists then SATYA, DIL CHAHTA HAI, NAYAK, CHAK DE INDIA, GOLMAAL(AMOL PALEKAR’s), SHOLEY, SAIRAT, SHWAAS, ASHI HI BANWA BANWI, GANGS OF WASSEYPUR 1 & 2, MASAAN. These are some of my picks for cult cinemas. I especially chose those movies because they broke the system, instead of going similarly. Some of them made me cry, some made me laugh, some made me force to think so that’s why they make the list. You all may not agree with me, if not then comment below to tell me. These movies broke the stereotype and made an impact.

If we particularly talk about GANGS OF WASSEYPUR then you all know the great things about it. The movie gave us Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Rajkumar Rao, and a famous director Tighmanshu Dhulia as an actor. Not to take any credits away from Anurag Kashyap with his great vision and direction. That movie was something else. The start and the end of the movies were unexpected and tacky. The greatness follows the arc.

Many people will be surprised to see ASHI HI BANWA BANWI on that list. But I think so it deserves that place. Everyone who is Marathi has at least seen this movie one time. Every time it comes on TV I enjoy it. There are many meme pages and memes based on this movie we can see on Instagram. So that’s why this movie makes the list.

So another great movie which is on the list is SATYA. I don’t know how many of you watched the movie, if not then do check it out. So the movie is based n the crime mafia Bhikhu and his right hand Satya. The movie is Ram Gopal Verma’s one of the best. The movie showcased the true colors of crime and police in Mumbai( at that time Bombay). The movie is a classic crime drama movie.

The Walk

 I started my walk as usual but as soon as I got out of my gate, I started to feel a little weird. I didn’t have this type of feeling in my life. The feeling was of fear yet happiness, like a mixed juice. I have a daily route for my walk. I start my walking from my society gate towards Deepak Stores, where I meet my ‘not so serious about health’ friends who come to walk just to eat Deepak’s samosas.
