Shakuntala Devi :- A Super Women

By Manish Surve The movie is a biopic of great mathematician Shakuntala Devi . The movie showcases her success of being a mathematician, astrologer and an author. It also showcases her family struggle of keeping her daughter together and with her troubling past. The effects used for maths during the movie are great. It connects us to the maths sums.  I don't have to say what character Vidya Balan is playing. You all know that. She is great as always. She is getting better and better by the time. Sanya Malhotra plays the role of Anu, daughter of Shakuntala Devi. Her acting is the highlight of the movie. Her character is the most difficult in the movie. She played it beautifully though. Her acting ability is really seen after the Dangal. Amit Sadh is having the best run of his career. This is his 3rd release and he is empressing in all his releases. Anu Menon did a splendid job in directing such a movie. She made the movie easy for all the audience by adding great humor in it. She...

Yaara :- Friendship Over Everything

By Manish Surve 'Yaara' is the story of four friends who form a gang in the 80s named 'Chaukdi Gang'.The gang smuggles things between India and Nepal. It showcases friendship, politics and internal rivalry in a quiet way. The film moves backward in the story. The movie is a remake of French Movie 'Les Lyonnais ( A Gang Story)'. The movie picks up speed after 30 mins. The cast of the movie is star studded. Vidyut Jamwal plays 'Phagun' who is the leader of the gang. He is emotional and of course strong. It is quite surprising not seeing much of his flying stunts in the movie. Amit Sadh in the role of 'Mitwa' who is like brother to Phagun. He is childish. Vijay Verma as 'Rizwan' who is playboy and short tempered. Shruti Hassan as a love interest of Phagun doesn't get much time in the movie. Her character is underused in the movie. Sanjay Mishra gives a cameo in the movie. Tighmanshu Dulia as a director impresses but I expected ...

All the movie fans across the globe have seen or heard about the movie at least one time and the name of the movie is 'The Shawshank Redemption' . As l think it is the greatest movie ever made in the history of cinema. This movie makes you think what is right or wrong and it is hard to swallow. This movie got all the colours- friendship, betrayal, trust, hope, defamation, cruelty, innocence and many others. Despite all this the movie doesn't get any award at Oscars after getting nominated for 7 categories including Best Picture. Tom Hanks turned down the role of Andy Deufrane because of the conflicting schedules between his movie Forrest Gump. The movie was a box office failure because of the competition of Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump. The movie became the first movie to be voted 2 millions times on IMDb. It is No.1 in the 'Top Rated Movies' till date. (There might be spoilers ahead if you haven't watched the movie but l don't think you haven't watch...

The Kissing Booth 2 :- A Teen Romance Building In Strong Franchise

By Manish Surve The movie resumes where it was left in the first part( So if you haven't watched it SPOILER ALERT!!!). Elle and Lee are now in senior year and enjoying the school's last year. Noah and Elle are struggling in a relationship due to long distance. Both of them get confused and a new boy comes into their life. The movie has all the elements that can be asked in a teen-romance. Most of the cast from the first movie is returned. Joey King as Elle once again impresses with her ability. Her playful character is the heart of the movie. Joel Courtney as Lee Flynn is the true friend. He always got Elle's back. His acting in emotional scenes dips down little. Jacob Elorid 's character as a Noah is changed from the first movie. His character is mature. He doesn't have much screen time compared to the first movie. Writing and direction of Vince Marcello is good. The screenplay of the movie is great but feels like the same old things we see in a teen rom-coms....

Dil Bechara :- Fault In Everyone's Stars

By Manish Surve The movie revolves around Kizie and Manny and their adventure with life and death. The storyline of the movie is different from the typical Bollywood rom-coms. The movie is a remake of 2014's 'The Fault In Our Stars' and loosely based on 2012's novel by the same name. I am not going to talk about any performances in this movie. The movie has its own emotion. The tragic event that happened is very sad and somehow it feels personal to me, maybe fault in our stars. So this is not a movie review . The movie is tribute to Sushant Singh Rajput so this review is. The feeling was different when I watched the movie. I felt the same when I watched Angrezi Medium after the demise of Irrfan Khan . This is the hardest review among all the reviews to write. The cast includes Sanjana Sanghi, Swastika Mukherjee, Sahil Vaid and Saif Ali Khan in cameo role. His cameo is one of the best cameos in Bollywood history.  Debutant director Mukesh Chhabra impresses you in h...

Kadakh :- An Early Diwali Gift

By INFORMAL REVIEW Kadakh is a film directed by Rajat Kapoor and the lead characters are played by Ranvir Shorey and Mansi Multani who are playing a couple named Sunl and Malti. Sunil has an extramarital affair and the woman's husband finds out. He comes to sunils house and commits suicide. The casting is spot on and each and every character nails the role, but the movie still feels a bit too stretched. The story had so much potential and the casting was great too, but the writing and direction was disappointing. The supporting cast includes some very big names like Manoj Pahwa, Rajat Kapoor, Kalki Koechiln etc.   The movie has so many layers but despite everything the film doesn't do justice to the initial buildup. The initial 15 mins and the last 15 minutes are the most exiting parts of the movie, but other than that the movie doesn't do much the expectation is raised as each supporting character enters the house. It’s a  film which i only 90 minutes long so its w...

The Revenant :- Struggle For Revange

By Manish Surve The movie describes Hugh Glass 's experiences in 1823. It showcases the struggle of Hugh Glass life. After he was attacked by a bear how he managed to survive is the main aspect of the movie. The movie has some layers of love, friendship, betrayal and vengeance. The movie is loosely based on the 2002 novel 'The Revenant'. Leonardo DiCaprio in the role of Hugh Glass nails it. His character barely has 10 minutes of dialogue in the whole movie. So it is all on his expressions. He earned 6th nomination for Oscars, winning it for the first  time. Tom Hardy plays the character of John Fitzgerald who is naive, short tempered and selfish. The role earned him his first Oscars. It is sad he didn't get the award. As some belive his performance was better than Leonardo DiCaprio . The supporting cast was also highly praised for their performances. Alejandro G. Iñàrritu directed this film phenomenally. He created a great environment for the movie. Most of the scen...

VIRGIN BHANUPRIYA :- A Tale Of Virginity Review by INFORMAL REVIEW

By Manish Surve The movie revolves around an adult girl named Bhanupriya who is a virgin. The movie's plot revolves around how she is desperate to lose her virginity and her friends are trying to help her . The family drama, same old dashing boy in girl's life and a nerd who is behind the girl but never gets her. The movie is a disaster. It is one of those movies which have only cringe content to sell. The acting, writing and direction is at their worst. From the start to end it is a disappointing movie. Urvashi Rautela in the title role of Bhanupriya gives an average performance. She tried to give her best but failed miserably. Bigg Boss fame Gautam Gulati in the role of Shartiya who can do anything for a bet. He is the same old Bollywood's character who is dashing with his bunch of friends and trying to win a girl. Archana Puran Singh as Bhanupriya's mother totally irritates you on screen. I don't know why her character is even in the movie. Rajiv Gupta as fat...

THE OLD GUARD :- A Story Of Immortals Review by INFORMAL REVIEW

By Manish Surve                                                                                                           The movie revolves around a group of people who are immortals. It showcases the struggle of their life and their powers too. Their life takes turns when a CIA agent wants to take their life and they go on a revenge mission. The movie is well paced. It has some great action scenes. It is based on the comics of Greg Rucka. I think they have missed the opportunity of not making the series. There is so much backstory but they just get rid of it in few minutes. The movie stars Charlize Theron as the leader of immortals named 'Andy'. Charlize Theron does a good job especially in action sequences. All the ...

GREYHOUND :- Another Tom Hanks Gem Review by INFORMAL REVIEW

By Manish Surve Greyhound is the story during Battle Of Atlantic during the World War ||. The story revolves around Commander Ernest Krause who is first coming in war as a Captain. It showcases how German submarines targeted the US Navy just after coming into war. The story is fascinating and gives you goosebumps. The movie is slow and it is a bit confusing to watch. The movie is an adaptation of 1955's novel The Good Shepherd. Tom Hanks as a Commander Ernest Krause steals the show as always. His acting skills are great and it doesn't need our say in it. His anxious look, his confusing state, all the boxes were tickled by him. Steven Graham as a second in command for Krause plays a good part especially in the first half of the movie. All the supporting cast did a commendable job. It's their movie and they make it special for us.  Aaron Schneider directed this film very beautifully. The insecurity of soldiers during tight situations. Bold decision making and a pause to think...

Breathe : Into The Shadows Yet Remains In Shadows Review by INFORMAL REVIEW

By Manish Surve Director : Mayank Sharma Starring : Abhishek Bachchan, Amit Sadh, Nithya Menen The series revolves around a father whose daughter is missing for nearly nine months. Now it's his turn to do whatever to save his child. It showcases how a family gets caught up in this mess and a famous transferred Mumbai cop Kabir Sawant tries to solve it in Delhi. They have very well connected the dots of Season One at the starting of this season. There are some unnecessary moments that could have been neglected. The series is stretched to 12 episodes which could have been made in 8-9 episodes. The series is 2nd season for Breathe but it only sees return of 2 old characters. Abhishek Bachchan in the role of psychiatrist Dr. Avinash Sabharwal impresses you in some of the scenes. But in some scenes his acting falls flat on its face. This series can do wonders for him as Sacred Games did for Saif Ali Khan. Amit Sadh plays the same short tempered inspector Kabir Sawant. He is as we know ...

BHONSLE - The story of ordinary man giving extraordinary advice Review by INFORMAL REVIEW

By Manish Surve Bhonsle is the story of a retired police havaldar who is living in a chawl and trying to extend his service in the police. The main topic of the movie is the issue of migrants in Mumbai. The movie showcases the daily life struggle of middle class people. The subject of the movie is like balancing on the wire. If you go a little bit here or there you might end up hurting someone. And we will give this to the writer and director that they have handled it very well. The movie showed equal mistakes from both sides and tried to look even. The movie is slow paced but the silence is the best emotion of the movie. Manoj Bajpayee plays the title role of Bhonsle. He is a lonely, quiet and value oriented person. Santosh Juvekar plays the character of Vilas who is a self-made politician and a flag bearer for locals. The most surprising performance in the movie is of Ipshita Chakraborty Singh as Sita. She is down to earth and caring in nature. She is an independent and hard working ...

7500

By Manish Surve The movie revolves around the airplane pilot Tobias Ellis whose airplane is hijacked by some terrorists. The movie is a survival drama and it showcases how he is going to secure all the passengers with himself. The story is too slow and the narrative is not so engaging. Complete movie is shot in a cockpit with high pilot protocols. If that was not enough the half of the movie is in German. They tried to make it engaging by adding some aspects like the pilot and air hostess are in relationship. Now if it comes to saving her life what he will do but lack of background story and slow pace makes it dull. There subject and motive is good but it is too slow and more confusing . The big name Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays the character of Tobias Ellis who is dedicated to his work and very professional in nature. The supporting cast is not known and mostly German. The movie was filmed in 2017 and premiered at Locarno Film Festival on August 9, 2019. It was digitally released on Ama...
